SDE + Energy production & SDE ++ Energy transition
Since 2020, the SDE subsidy has been divided into the SDE +, which focuses on energy production and the SDE ++, which focuses on avoiding CO2.

What is the Stimulation for Sustainable Energy Production?
The Stimulation Sustainable Energy Production is known as SDE + and the SDE ++ has also been added since 2020. This subsidy is intended to stimulate the development of sustainable energy supply in the Netherlands. This can be done within the following pillars:
In addition, there is a separate pillar for offshore wind energy. There is also a separate budget for this. With the subsidy, the government wants to ensure that we as a country get an increasingly sustainable energy supply, which is less dependent on fossil fuels and takes better care of the environment and climate. Are you planning to invest in one of these pillars with your company in order to meet your sustainable energy needs and to contribute to healthier energy supply? Then it is a good plan to see what you can achieve within the Stimulation of Sustainable Energy Production. MK has an excellent track record when it comes to applying for the SDE subsidy and is happy to help you with your application.
The difference between SDE + and SDE ++
Since 2020, the government has expanded the Stimulation for Sustainable Energy Production with the SDE ++ subsidy. The SDE ++ has the same abbreviation but stands for Stimulating Sustainable Energy Transition. While the focus of the SDE + is mainly on meeting the energy demand, the SDE ++ is about actively avoiding CO2 emissions. The subsidy for the SDE ++ is therefore allocated to projects based on the amount of CO2 avoided. At the SDE +, applications are assessed on the amount of energy that is generated. The more effective you can avoid CO2 per euro, the greater the chance of success of your SDE ++ subsidy application. As a result, not only the above five pillars are eligible for the subsidy, but also technologies that do not actively produce energy, but above all save energy. Think of the following techniques:
Residual heat utilization
This is not an exhaustive list and moreover, other techniques that may also be considered are also being considered. Are you unsure whether or not your project would be eligible? Always contact us so that you do not miss out on any subsidy.
The budget for the SDE
The spring round of SDE + in 2020 has a budget of 2 billion euros. From the autumn round, the SDE ++ will be added to this with a budget of 5 billion euros. The budget for the coming years will be determined annually. This shows that it is serious for the government and that they really want to bring about a permanent change in the energy supply. The amount of the subsidy that you can actually receive depends on the project and is paid on the basis of how much kWh you can generate for the SDE + and how much CO2 the project will avoid for the SDE ++.
Applying for the SDE subsidy
You can apply for the SDE subsidy from March 17, 2020 at 9:00 am. For the SDE subsidy, however, different phases apply with corresponding phase limits and an amount per kWh generated or CO2 avoided. Contact a specialist to see what is the best plan of action for you. MK has specialists for all kinds of subsidies. The SDE subsidy is a good example of this. And especially now that in addition to an SDE + subsidy there is also an SDE ++ subsidy, it is wise to at least have a professional take a look. In this way, you ensure that you get the most out of the subsidy and can contribute to the sustainable energy production and transition of the Netherlands.
